Dean’s Goodbye
I didn’t want to leave you,
I loved you more than life.
I treasured every moment
That I had you for my wife.
The time we had together
Brought me joy you’ll never know
But when I heard God calling
I knew I had to go.
I wanted to reach out to you
And wipe your tears away,
To hug you and to hold you
And take your fears away.
This wasn’t what I meant to do -
To leave the ones I love…
But the angels came to take me
To Heaven up above.
They told me I was needed,
That my time on earth was done.
They took me towards a Light
That was brighter than the sun.
I knew where they were taking me
I’d be so far away
From you, my love, I had no choice
But to go with them that day.
As I left, I looked back at you
And saw you in such pain.
But I knew one day, you and I
Would be together once again.
I wanted to reach out to you,
To say one last goodbye,
To whisper that “I loved you”
And tell you not to cry.
I knew it wouldn’t help alot
I felt your broken heart.
I knew you didn’t understand
Why now we had to part.
As the days and weeks went by
I saw the sadness in your eyes.
I knew how much you missed me
And as you came to realize
That I would not be coming back,
It wasn’t just a dream.
I wished somehow I could tell you
Things aren’t as they seem.
I want you to remember me,
I want you to go on,
I want you to be happy
And not think of me as gone.
For, Sweetheart, I am with you,
I’m closer than you know…
I’m beside you every step you take
And everywhere you go.
For, you see, God has allowed me
To be in your heart always
For as long as I am needed
To brighten up your days.
I’m the warmth of the sunshine
And the breeze upon your hair,
I’m the raindrops falling from the sky -
You’ll find me everywhere.
You only need to call my name
And listen carefully…
You’ll know someone is very near
And that someone is me.
I loved you through the years we had
Together, you and I,
Think of this as “for awhile”
And never as goodbye.
I’m saving you a special place
Up here, to be with me
And when the angels come for you -
Once again “we’ll” be!
All my love,
Dean
